Outreach at PICEH

The heart of PICEH’s Outreach Program is to provide useful information to the public about children’s environmental health. Over the past few years we have distributed thousands of booklets and brochures throughout Berks County and Pennsylvania on children’s environmental health issues and how parents can keep children safe from environmental harms. By partnering with The Reading Hospital and Medical Center, St. Joseph Medical Center, The Olivet Boy’s and Girl’s Club, numerous pediatric offices and other community organizations, we ensure that children’s environmental health materials are readily available to the general public.

Another publication that the Outreach Program oversees is the production of The Stepping Stone. Each quarter this publication carries leading voices on children’s environmental health issues covering current topics in the field. The Stepping Stone is made available to the public and mailed quarterly to those who contribute to PICEH. If you are interested in receiving a copy of The Stepping Stone, please call 610-670-9200.

Another element of PICEH’s Outreach Program is The Child’s World Lecture Series. Each year PICEH invites some of the leading minds on children’s environmental health topics to Berks County, Pennsylvania, to share with the community their expert opinions about issues related to children. Previous speakers have included PA DEP Deputy Secretary Mr. Tom Fidler, Dr. Devra Davis, and Dr. Steven Gilbert. All lectures are free to the public and are offered in conjunction with Kutztown University. Please see our events page for a current schedule of speakers.

Outreach at the institute is based on a simple premise of helping people remember that children are not little adults and sharing with the public ways in which we can keep our children safe from environmental harms.
